When serving on the deuce side, an aggressive slice out wide can be a great first serve. In today’s lesson, Brady demonstrates how to hit this effective serve that can put your opponent on the ropes early in the point.

Brady – I can’t help but wonder the following: When implementing out wide serves in the Ad court, it totally makes sense to create spin from left to right, BUT…it doesn’t make sense to strike the ball on the inside and roll it to the right (or strike right through, for that matter), because with that spin it will hit the court and curve INTO the court (rather than further out). In contrast, if the server could strike the front RIGHT side of the ball but have the racquet path over the ball (the side of the ball facing the server) be RIGHT to LEFT, when it hit the court it would take off much further to the OUTSIDE of the court. Does that make sense? I have never heard an instructor suggest this, but it seems totally feasible AND I have done it a few times and it KILLS when it hits the court and takes off outside the court….Your thoughts (I’m talking physics basically at this point).
