Great teaching points about momentum transfer and grip pressure. My first experience as a student was 65 years ago in Texas with pro Chuck Avera (one mentor of the great Tut Bartzen), but it has taken me a very long time since to understand proper weight transfer timing on a volley. Precisely when to INITIATE the forward “step” of the right foot is still hard for me to visualize, although when the foot hits the court surface is precisely as the ball leaves racket face. I did really like your comment about the drop volley: “In a given situation, a drop volley might be a good idea”. HA HA. !! Indeed.
